Supply Chain Resilience – Managing the risk

If we haven’t learned our lesson by now – it’s about time we do…

The world is changing – the dynamics, the regulatory complexity and market diversity. Never have companies been more exposed to global events and disruptions the last 5 years we’ve seen Cyberattacks, Covid, War in Ukraine, the Ever-Given Suez Canal blocking, the global semi-conductor shortage, US vs. China tradewar, Global shipping container shortage and simply qualified labor shortage in general.

The effect we’ve seen is a massive impact to company’s cost base and an increasein companies struggling to remain competitive, uphold their commercial obligations, putting their market reputation on the line.

Operating a resilient supply chain model safegauards your business from significant loss of revenue, expediting, ransomware or similar – in short, it is often good business to act, rather than react.

Implementing resilience in your business model and business case thinking, help companies stay ahead of the cost curve, and deliver greater market performance than their peers.

The role of procurement has changed through the years – from transactional oriented to a key strategic function in most companies around the world.

Very few functions within a company’s value chain has an equal number of stakeholders having a strong opinion on the services the department provide.

Sustainable Procurement & Scope 3 reporting

“The regulators expect it – the market want it – so how do we integrate sustainable procurement priorities in an environment where a traditional mindset is: “cost is king”

Working with Sustainable procurement means prioritizing the sourcing of goods and services with minimal environmental and social impact, ensuring ethical practices throughout the supply chain. It focuses on reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting fair labor standards, contributing to long-term environmental and societal wellbeing.

Scope 3 reporting, which tracks indirect emissions from the entire value chain, is crucial for sustainable procurement. It encompasses everything from supplier emissions to product lifecycle impacts. By integrating sustainable procurement with Scope 3 reporting, companies can drive accountability, reduce their carbon footprint, and meet ambitious climate targets, fostering transparency and sustainability across global supply chains“

In this course, we cover methods of analyzing and determining global sourcing, offshoring and reshoring choices. We also look at advanced global sourcing strategies such as regionalization and China+1. Finally, we discuss methods for understanding global political and economic changes and how they impact the strategic objectives of the company.

In this course, we look closer at how procurement managers can create, develop and adapt their global supplier network for optimum supplier performance and value creation. On-boarding of new suppliers is not just a simple scoring exercise combined with a tender or negotiation. Companies must consider broader strategic objectives simultaneously, for example the need for resilience and sustainability.

A solid supplier segmentation model must ensure that the company can continue to get the most optimum value out of its supplier network. In addition, companies must analyze their strategic posture and attractiveness, to ensure that they can attract the best global suppliers in a business landscape with growing scarcities and pressure on global capacity.

    • Creating resilient and adaptable supplier networks
    • Advanced global sourcing strategies and value co-creation
    • Strategic supplier segmentation

Maintaining, optimizing and developing supplier performance has always been a core task for procurement. In this course, we go through the key elements and process of supplier performance management. However, supplier performance management doesn’t stop with having the correct measures, scorecards and procedures. Procurement must gain a broader understanding of value creation with suppliers, the resources suppliers have available to tap into, and how suppliers allocate resources between customers in a differentiated manner.

With this knowledge, procurement managers can do more than simply maintaining supplier performance. They can initiate and engage in joint improvement initiatives to gain improved access to supplier resources and develop suppliers’ performance. In the course, we therefore also cover more advanced supplier development initiatives aimed at gaining access to supplier resources for value creation.

    • Defining KPIs and scorecards that align supplier performance with corporate goals
    • The supplier performance assessment process
    • Advanced supplier development for performance improvement and innovation

Having a sustainable supply network has become a key strategic objective for most companies. Procurement must therefore ensure that suppliers throughout their global supply network live up to social and environmental responsibilities, while simultaneously maintaining cost and quality performance. This course covers the process and elements of sustainable sourcing, for example codes-of-conduct and monitoring.

However, procurement functions must also handle the instances where suppliers are not sufficiently capable or less willing to develop sustainability competencies. These suppliers require a more interactive approach, where procurement engages with suppliers, for example to track and reduce scope 3 emissions. Finally, this course also covers the added challenges of sustainable sourcing beyond direct suppliers, further upstream in the supply network.

    Key content:

    • Creating sustainable procurement strategies that align with corporate values
    • Supplier compliance - setting and measuring supplier sustainability
    • Multi-tier supply chain transparency and compliance tracking
    • Balancing the performance objectives of sustainable vs. conventional sourcing
